tonight were having a dinner party for 8. my moms been making her own pho for a couple days now. she started boiling the beef bones, toasting the onions and ginger, slicing the cilantro, scooping off the fat, and my dads complaining about how he has to vacuum the dining room.. men are so terrible.

the protests were wild. i did not appreciate the fire alarm pulling while studying for my midterm.. that was not cool. these fee hikes are also not cool, but i understand the money has to come from somewhere. UCs are only given so much money from the state. sad. money gets people so angry.

i have a mini break from midterms, so im posting.

i absolutely love my view. although its just rieber hall, which is under construction, i think its pretty! love the way the trees blow around. love the palm trees that are right under my window. love the view of the turn around, and spying on people coming in and out of the building.

So at UCLA, there's this lab called CASSEL: the California Social Science Experimental Laboratory. You sign up for experiments, go for an hour, and get paid in cash. its GREAT.

so i've been saving up for this jacket..

from UO.. or something like it. (okay.. go ahead and slap me for falling into the leather trend, i like it okay!) i dislike the bomber-looking elastic cuffs though.. and i wish it were real leather because polyurethane doesnt comply with CA prop 65.. or something scary.

so we got to estelas, which deceivingly has the same star-age as ikes--- but def not as good.

this is that skirt i made about a month ago here. its finally HOT HOT HOT in the city. enough to warrant going out WITHOUT a sweater for the wind chill.. On friday, SF reached a record 96 degrees. it was honestly disgusting. my black steering wheel pan seared my fingers, outside lands blocked off access through the park, and there was no breeze to whip off the sweat from my glistening head. LAWL

ever since i got my move in date for UCLA, ive been GIDDY to go back, move furniture, decorate, and MAKE THINGS.

today in the city: 80 deg in my room according to my smokey the bear (ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT WILDFIRES) thermometer, ikes place for a delicious sandwich with Em and Jacque, hopefully biking with B, getting paint chips with pops, and fellowship dinner at Jlaus. its gonna be great.

sunday morning

this weather's got me really feeling florals of all kinds. this top is gap for a coool $18. i havent sewn my two new pillow cases yet, but they'll make an appearance here in a few days. emily and i bought the fabric at peapod on 18th and irving on friday before hitting up fifi's. it was an almost normal hang out.. with the addition of some pale ale and minus carter. i miss those days. were thinking about a reunion LSA retreat! would that be too weird?
and im driving erin and her brother enders to lowell for freshmen orientation on tuesday.. WEIRD. i feel like ill be like "okay kids, have fun at school. see you at 3:30 for soccer practice!" hmmmmm..

in her memory, i wore the skirt turned dress she got me for "christmas" (from her roomie's box of undesirable clothing). it's been soooo beautiful in the city the past couple of days. :) im all golden brown like a good cha sew bao.

met up with Heejin at Ocean beach on wed, before she headed off to a journ reunion dinner. i was reminded of what a genuinely joyful, down to earth person she is. ive missed her a lot since harvard took her away. we got all caught up on lowell news, 1st year college experiences, breakups, drifting friends, people's boyfriends.. ahha and korea!

i havent blogged in about a week because i've been so busy planning this:

"ALOHA" Grad Banquet 2009 for seniors and 8th grade graduates at my church. i didnt get too many pictures of the centerpieces or food, but basically we used a lot of tea lights, sea shells, and hula skirts. haha

and will knitted his tie. looks so scrumptious next to the blue.

im camp counseling jr high and high schoolers next week in the redwoods so i'll be MIA from the internet scene. goodbye!

It's hard to describe the feeling of making. But it feels good. God must feel good a lot.

Anyway, this is my first skirt. I bought the cornflower blue linen at Jo Ann's as a yard of remnants because I thought the blue would look really good with an LA tan. har har har. here's a short play by play of what I did with Connie.

1) cut two rectangles of linen (about 23x16 inches) and sew the sides together.
2) hem
3) tack down the end of the elastic to one side of the skirt
4) stretch elastic as you sew down along the top, using box stitch for stretch.
5) sew straight stitch down the ends of the elastic to keep them together
6) add pocket

voila!








yayerzzz! this was pretty simple, so I'll be making more as soon as I buy more elastic. :)

Connie learned to sew! and fixed that size 6 skirt (the one she found in her dorm room one night that didnt belong to either of her roomies.. nor anyone on the floor. SKETCHY!) it looks brilliant!!!!!! nice work, C.

nakey funfetti cupcakes are such an eyesore. there's been so much cupcaking on martha stewart that i became crazy for cupcakes late last week. im lucky to live so close to luckys. lawl okay.

theres something about this fruity paisley that i love SO MUCH right now. this skirt makes me just wanna frolic in dolores park with many other girls in short skirts or waltz on the roof with a cutie or sit quietly at tea. heeheehee in other words its got me feelin pretty classy. cant wait to attempt to make a skirt this weekend!
